The call of God is a divine invitation, he is inviting us not forcing us. He is giving us an opportunity and it is up to us to qualify ourselves, so He can choose us. This process takes time and does not occur overnight.
Matthew 22:14 For many are called, but few are chosen.
The word ‘chosen’ means ‘to select, to pick out, to prefer’. Further study shows the word to mean ‘to be handpicked by God’. In other words, God has many choices and He has decided the select few. The assumption we seem to make is that, if I’m called, then I am automatically chosen.
The calling must be worked out first. It is a high calling (Philippians 3:14) it is a holy calling (2 Timothy 1:9) and it is a heavenly calling (Hebrews 3:1). So, it is nothing to take lightly. We are called according to His purposes and not ours (Romans 8:28).
2 Peter 1:10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:
The call is an individual decision. When answered, it becomes a corporate decision since it is a call to the Body. Many today are calling themselves and it is not God calling them. Then another group is choosing themselves. Many seem to be called and go right into action not really being chosen by God. Still others seem to be called and chosen or commissioned all at the same time.
